Description

CareStart COVID-19 Antigen Test – A Rapid POC Test

One year after its outbreak, Covid-19 remains a highly contagious infection with a massive global spread. If not contained, the infection could cripple healthcare systems and economies across the world. To effectively contain the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, regular screening and detection of both asymptomatic and clinical covid-19 cases are paramount. That’s where a Covid-19 Rapid Test comes in. CareStart COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test is a point-of-care (POC) designated test undertaken by medical experts to provide needful answers about active infections to both healthcare workers and patients.

What are the features and benefits of CareStart COVID-19 Antigen Rapid POC Test?

The main features that make this Covid-19 Rapid Test stand out are:

  • Expeditious test results in just under 10 minutes
  • Lateral flow tests
  • Nasal specimen collection
  • Can be performed in POC settings by a medical practitioner with a CLIA waiver
  • Storage temperature ranging anywhere from 1 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Easily detects SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein antigen
  • Detects acute infection with 100% specificity and 87.2% sensitivity

What are the testing principles involved?

CareStart COVID-19 Antigen Test is a lateral flow test performed to detect extracted nucleocapsid protein antigens allied to SARS-CoV-2 in swab specimens. The specimens have to be drawn directly from symptomatic patients suspected to have contracted COVID-19 by their medical attendants.

The procedure involves:

  • Removing the aluminum foil seal and strongly rotating the swab inside the extraction vial at least 5 times.
  • Drawing out the swab by rotating against the extraction vial and squeezing its sides to release the liquid from the swab. Be sure to discard the swab properly.
  • Sealing the vial by firmly pushing in its cap and mixing thoroughly by flicking the tube’s bottom.
  • Lastly, inverting the vial and vertically holding the sample right above the sample well. With the vial in position, gently squeeze the vial and allow only 3 drops of sample to drip into the sample well.

CareStart COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Results Interpretation

Read the results after exactly 10 minutes, no more no less. The results can either be positive, negative, or invalid.

The presence of SARS-CoV-2 antigen does not negate co-infection with other pathogens. Therefore, the color intensity in the test area will vary based on the quantity of SARS-CoV-2 antigen present in the sample. If the lines in the test region are faintly colored, the result is positive.

Negative test results should not be taken to mean lack of infection. That means they should not inform decision-making about a patient’s management by themselves. Such tests should be further confirmed through a molecular testing method for patient treatment.

When you experience an invalid test result during initial testing, re-run the test one more time using the remaining specimen in the vial.
